THE CHALLENGE
A Top 12 pharmaceutical company wanted to equip a group of up-and-coming physicians from across Europe with enhanced skills for communicating new advancements in the science.
To help conceptualize, design, and execute these speaker training sessions, the client searched for a medical communications agency with extensive experience in crafting scientific messaging for medical audiences, and who could propose an innovative approach to the overall program design.
In addition, the agency partner was also required to demonstrate solid experience in virtual and hybrid meetings; this speaker training series would be the first intentionally-designed virtual experience from the outset (previous projects had been adapted from face-to-face due to COVID-19 restrictions).

For the program to be successful, audience participation needed to be high. To ensure a significant level of engagement, physicians went through self-managed independent learning activities between keynote sessions. They also participated in smaller workshops, where targeted learning support and assessments were provided.
“We wanted to provide a supportive, collaborative and flexible learning environment for physicians” – reveals Carolyn Whiting, EVP Strategy & Innovation at Six Degrees Medical – “the independent learning activities, paired with small-group sessions and a dedicated trainer helped to build a learning community with other trainees, as part of the learner experience design model.”
To help participants communicate their message in a relevant and authentic way, Six Degrees Medical included a Virtual Storytelling module. Led by a virtual storytelling training specialist, this section of the program focused on developing more meaningful connections by reviewing virtual communication best practices, as well as delivering stories in a way that engages geographically dispersed audiences.
