As our Director, Scientific Services, you will be responsible for leading the provision of innovative, high-quality scientific/medical writing services for multiple and concurrent programs of varying degrees of complexity and scale. You will report to the VP, Medical & Scientific Strategy.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Program/Project Content Development And Delivery

  • Leading and/or participating in brainstorming sessions to identify innovative and creative approaches for delivering the client’s message and project deliverables
  • Keeping the internal team abreast of changes in client requirements and offering counsel on how to work with healthcare companies and other third parties in delivering successful face-to-face and virtual events with high-quality content
  • Contributing to and providing strategic insight into the development of RFPs; reviewing proposals and making recommendations ensuring all proposals are scientifically sound. Partnering with other senior leaders in pitching proposals to clients

Meeting Programs

  • Directing, developing, and/or overseeing the development of scientific content for face-to-face and virtual meetings including agenda and program development; identifying speakers and key opinion leader (KOL) consultants; developing slide decks, workshop concepts, and other meeting content
  • Directing and leading pre-meeting/meeting rehearsals, working closely with the speakers and clients, making last minute changes to content alongside other project team members
  • Responsible for day-of-event/onsite content including workshop facilitation as needed as well as interfacing with the client, speakers/faculty, and production vendors to ensure successful meeting execution
  • Overseeing, reviewing and/or developing the final meeting report summarizing the feedback received and follow-up action plans, in compliance with regulatory requirements, client SOPs and within agreed timelines- Providing oversight and insights at post-event debriefs with the client

Non-Meeting Related Scientific Services

  • Directing, contributing to, and overseeing development of slide decks, publications, scientific synopses, digital media, newsletters, and other content as required by the client
  • Reviewing and approving all content and ensuring materials are accurate, scientifically correct, compliant with all regulatory requirements and signed off by the client

Building and Maintaining Client Relations

  • Interfacing regularly and proactively with clients and other stakeholders (doctors, members of the medical community) on all matters relating to scientific services content development and responding to their ongoing questions and concerns
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and relevant client SOPs and ensuring project teams and clients remain in compliance
  • Resolving client’s problems with a view to building relationships and supporting the project team in troubleshooting problems with uncooperative clients, delegates, doctors, and other stakeholders

Organizational and People Leadership

  • Providing recommendations for assignment of Medical Writers to project teams, matching individual capabilities and availability to project requirements
  • Providing leadership to Medical Writers to ensure department/project goals, policies and programs are properly implemented and applied
  • Working with direct reports to develop performance objectives aligned with Six Degrees Medical’s strategic direction and supporting them to achieve their goals
  • Conducting annual performance reviews with direct reports
  • Interviewing, hiring, and recommending candidates for various Scientific Services positions.
  • Recommending departmental staffing and training needs to ensure projects can be appropriately executed.

You Will Have:

  • MSc in life science, medical, pharmaceutical, or relevant fields
  • 6 to 10 years of medical writing experience within the pharmaceutical industry, agency or R&D function including at least 2 to 3 years of people leadership experience
  • Successful track record of leading complex scientific writing projects
  • Extensive and varied knowledge of the global pharmaceutical industry and related regulatory and compliance requirements, global drug development process and product market needs
  • Expert knowledge of the methods, techniques, and procedures of scientific writing tasks
  • Confident decision maker, able to analyze critically and synthesize complex scientific information from a range of scientific disciplines and clinical therapeutic areas
  • Strong client management and influencing skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects under high pressure situations in a fast-paced environment
  • Enjoys working with others, can operate effectively with peers while working in a virtual environment- Strong communication skills
